Latin NCAP establishes new safety standards for vehicle manufacturing in Latin America.

  • The program assigns ratings from 0 to 5 stars, evaluating protection for adults, children, pedestrians, and driver assistance technologies.
  • Latin NCAP is revolutionizing safety standards in Latin America
  • Its objective is to save lives through the continuous improvement of vehicle manufacturing in the region.
  • Volkswagen is one of the brands with the highest number of models recognized with five stars in Latin NCAP tests.
  • Models such as the Polo, Virtus, T‑Cross, Taos, Nivus, Tiguan, Teramont, and, more recently, the new Tera have achieved high safety ratings.

In Latin America, where road safety still faces major challenges, the New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean (Latin NCAP) has become a key tool in transforming the way vehicles are manufactured and purchased. Its influence has motivated manufacturers to raise their standards, prioritizing the protection of occupants and pedestrians across all segments.

Since its creation in 2010 and its formal establishment in 2014 as a legal association, Latin NCAP has evaluated dozens of vehicles under internationally recognized standards, following protocols similar to those of Euro NCAP. Through rigorous and objective testing, this independent organization provides consumers with reliable and transparent guidance on the level of safety offered by each model available on the market. Its main objective is to save lives through the continuous improvement of vehicle safety in the region. To achieve this, the program assigns ratings ranging from 0 to 5 stars, based on tests that evaluate four key areas: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Pedestrian and Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Driver Assistance Technologies. The tests conducted by Latin NCAP are applied to the most basic safety versions of each model, making it possible to verify whether brands are providing a minimum level of protection accessible to all buyers.

Volkswagen reaffirms its commitment to safety in every model

In this context, Volkswagen has established itself as one of the automakers most committed to safety in the region. Thanks to its focus on innovation and the incorporation of driver assistance technologies, it is positioned as one of the brands with the highest number of vehicles that have achieved the highest rating (five stars) in Latin NCAP tests.

Among the models that obtained this recognition are the Polo and Virtus in the sedan segment. In the SUV category, standout models include the T‑Cross, Taos, Nivus, Tiguan, Teramont, and, more recently, the new Tera, a completely new model that has also received this certification.

These vehicles come standard with features such as 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), tire pressure monitoring systems, ISOFIX anchors, and structures designed for optimal impact absorption. In addition, many of them are equipped with advanced driver assistance technologies such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keeping Assist, which actively contribute to accident prevention.

At Volkswagen Peru, this global commitment is also reflected in the brand’s local offering.

“At Volkswagen Peru, we understand that safety cannot be an option. That is why we work to ensure that every model, regardless of segment, meets the highest standards of protection for all occupants. In addition, with the support of initiatives such as Latin NCAP, we continue advancing toward safer, more conscious, and more responsible mobility, reinforcing our commitment to drivers and their families,” said Verónica Baca, Brand Manager of Volkswagen Peru.
